Furry Vengeance by director Roger Kumble and starring Brendan Fraser and Brooke Shields, is a slapstick family comedy with a strong environmental theme (although as always with modern films, some of the humour is not really for kids, including scenes of animals murdering a bad-ass property developer in the opening sequence).
The main storyline is built around a band of savvy forest animals who don’t want their pristine forest clear-cut by a newly arrived sub-division developer (Brendan Fraser). The band of woodland creatures, lead by a wily raccoon, declare war on the developer and turn a peaceful suburban cul-de-sac into an environmental stand-off.
Told through the viewpoint of the animals, this overtly green film is stuffed full of eco-messages that both adults and children will identify with, including the theme of making decisions to consider both family, environment and the greater good.
Overall, it is a fun family film. Even though this film is far from subtle in its messages, kids will still enjoy spending a few hours rooting for the animals in Furry Vengeance.
As a general rule, we prefer not to watch/support films with the use of captive animals. Furry Vengeance does opt to use some computer-generated images and the American Humane Society verified none of the animals were ill-treated. The carbon-neutral movie was offset with Native Energy.
