The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) has agreed to show The Cove, the shocking film about dolphin slaughter in Taiji, Japan. The festival had previously rejected the film. TIFF director Tatsumi Yoda said the festival had decided to include the film due to worldwide public interest, but declined to explain further.
This is the first time The Cove will be shown to a large Japanese audience.
The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, uncovers the annual capture and slaughter of more than 23,000 dolphins and whales in Taiji, Japan.
The 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival runs Oct. 17-25, 2009.
