Have you made a movie about a sexy and sustainable hero driving a hybrid? Or maybe you have made a flick where organic or healthy food plays a leading or supporting role? Perhaps your movie was made carbon neutral? If so, your film qualifies for the world’s first festival to focus on ‘green’ filmmaking – the Going Green Film Festival.
With the motto of REthink, REplenish, REcommit, the Going Green Film Festival’s three main categories include Green Production, where a film’s production worked to lessen the carbon footprint left on the planet (with documentation of the process); Our Planet, where the film’s topic covers third world issues, ecology, nature, wildlife or the environment; and Hybrid/Alternative Transportation where films feature a hybrid vehicle, bicycle, electric scooter or public transportation.
“More than ever, it is critical for the film industry—whether big budget or independent—to contribute towards environmental preservation,” says Festival Founder Patrice Williams. “We’ve launched the industry’s first all-green film festival to reward filmmakers who are promoting ways of producing film using alternative materials and environmentally-friendly practices, both in the office and on set.”
Films can be any genre, but must be between 10 minutes and 120 minutes in length and have been completed between 2008 and 2010.
November 30, 2009 is the next deadline for film submission (includes a $20 donation to REC’s/Clean Energy). If you can’t make this deadline, there is a last chance to submit by January 30th, 2010 in the final submission time frame.
The Going Green Film Festival runs April 2-4, 2010. GreenMuze.com is a sponsor of the festival.
