Vegan bakeries just got a whole lot cooler and mainstream with the recent announcement that Animal Planet will be airing a summer series focused on Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based bakery Vegan Treats.
The twelve episode "Sweet Avenger" series will follow 36-year old Danielle Konya, founder and owner of Vegan Treats, in her quest to prove that tasty treats and decadents sweets can be created without animal cruelty.
“I want to show people that by eating a vegan confection, you’re directly saving the lives of cows, chickens and thereby the environment and habitats of thousands of other exotic species,” explains Konya. “There’s nothing appetizing about the suffering of 10 billion animals a year, and my treats can satisfy both the palate and the conscience.”
The accomplished baker has won numerous awards and accolades, and is popular amongst celebrities including Alicia Silverstone and Joan Jett.
