Used clothing, paper, refrigerators and electronics are just a few of the materials that were used to construct the temporary House of Contamination at Italy’s Artissima17 International Fair of Contemporary Art.

Created by Berlin-based collective Raumlabor, the large-scale environmental art installation was designed to serve as a representation of the Artissima’s curatorial programme and host/house the various art disciplines including dance, cinema, literature, design, urbanism and education.

“Walls are made out of recovered, regenerated and recycled material: plastic, paper, fabric and wood are intercepted at some point in the recycling process and taken to be used as main building element,” explains the Artissima website. “The furniture is designed and produced by Raumlabor with old fridges, washing machines, doors and blinds ready for the dump. A garage covered in used clothes opens and closes at time intervals to discharge light and wind in the surroundings.”
