The question of what to do with all your unwanted cassette tapes from the 80s has been answered – rather creatively – by Edinburgh College of Art architecture student Emmett McNamara.

The temporary Tapehouse, comprised of more than 7,000 used cassette tapes, is a project that explores reusing and repurposing abundant sources of common waste materials.
“Tapes have a special place in a lot of people’s hearts. The associated cognitive imagery is part of a deeper emotional part of us,” explains the architect and artist. “We need to fall in love with materials again. See not just their monetary value but instead imagine their sentiment and inherent value.”

The used cassettes were collected from various secondhand stores and donated by friends, then categorized according to color and finally attached together via wire and plastic ties.
